Homework

Homework

Homework is all set through Class Dojo. Please check this regularly to find further instructions on your child's homework.

Reading

The children are expected to read at least three times a week at home to an adult. For year 1, this will involve reading their phonically decodable book 3 times. These will be at your child's stage of phonics so they will know all the sounds in the book.

1st read - read to practise fluency, decoding any words you are not sure of.

2nd read - read with prosidy. This means using expression and intonation to develop an understanding of the text.

3rd read - read to develop a deeper understanding. Can they answer questions you ask about the text?

Year 2 will follow a similar reading at home timetable with their home reader book but for those year 2 who have completed the Little Wandle phonics programme and are secure with phase 5, these books will be selected by the children from their book band colour (orange and upwards).

Please note this down in your child’s reading diary with the book title, pages read and your initials.

It is also so valuable to read with your child. They will bring home a library book to inspire them to have a love of reading.

Spellings

Spellings are set on Tuesdays. Year 1s learn 6 spelling words and 4 tricky words.

Year 2s learn 10 spelling words and 4 tricky words.

Spelling Bingo will take place on a Monday morning.

Miss Pettit also posts the weekly sounds we are learning onto Class Dojo each week. Please practise these at home too.

Maths

Maths homework is to practise your learn its.

These are key facts the children need to learn instantly and they will need to score full marks on their challenges two weeks in a row to show competence at that level and then they will move on to the next set of Learn Its. The aim is to beat their score each week. Please see the link below if you would like to see more about the progression of the  Learn It challenges and print these off at home to practise.
