Gamston St Peter's CofE Primary School PE Curriculum
At Gamston St Peter's CofE Primary School, our Physical Education (PE) curriculum is designed to be accessible to all pupils, maximising their development and achievement in physical activity. We aim to equip pupils with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead healthy, active lives and to understand how to apply this knowledge to enhance their participation in sport and overall well-being.
Our PE curriculum aims to:
Promote Inclusivity: Ensure that every pupil, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to engage in physical activity and develop their skills.
Develop Knowledge and Skills: Equip pupils with the fundamental knowledge and skills related to physical activity, fitness, and healthy lifestyles, fostering a lifelong appreciation for movement.
Encourage Participation: Inspire pupils to participate actively in sports and physical activities, both within and beyond the school environment.
Our goals for the PE curriculum include:
Holistic Development: Support pupils in developing not only their physical skills but also their confidence, teamwork, and resilience through a variety of sports and activities.
Competitive Opportunities: Provide opportunities for pupils to engage in inter-school competitions organised by the Bassetlaw School Games Organiser, allowing them to experience a range of competitive sports, including multi-skills, handball, hockey, basketball, lacrosse, boccia, and High 5s netball.
Healthy Lifestyle Awareness: Foster an understanding of the importance of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle, encouraging pupils to make informed choices about their health and fitness.
By the end of their time at Gamston St Peter's CofE Primary School, pupils will possess the skills and knowledge to lead active, healthy lives and participate confidently in various physical activities.
Our PE curriculum is structured around the National Curriculum and is supported by local partnerships. Key elements include:
Long-Term Planning: We utilise Subject Key Learning and Progression in Skills grids to develop comprehensive long-term planning and assessment in PE, ensuring a coherent and progressive learning journey.
Unit Planning: Teachers use long-term planning to design units of work and deliver individual lessons that are engaging and relevant to pupils’ interests.
Collaboration with Secondary Schools: Curriculum planning is further supported by our partnership with Retford Oaks Academy, ensuring continuity and progression in physical education as pupils transition to secondary school.
The impact of our PE curriculum is evident in various ways:
Enhanced Physical Competence: Pupils will demonstrate improved physical skills and confidence in their ability to participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities.
Increased Engagement: Our curriculum fosters a positive attitude towards physical activity, encouraging pupils to appreciate the significance of their learning in real-world contexts.
Positive Health Outcomes: By promoting a healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity, we aim to contribute to the overall well-being of our pupils, preparing them for a healthy future.
Through a variety of enriching experiences, including well-structured PE lessons and competitive opportunities, our pupils will be prepared to thrive in an increasingly active and interconnected world.
